LIQUID MIND
Liquid Mind VI: Spirit
(Real Music)

One of the true icons of New Age electronic music, Liquid Mind recorded an early classic way back in 2003. Featuring the meditative music of Liquid Mind founder Chuck Wild, Liquid Mind VI: Spirit is very steeped in meditation music and the beauty of this album remains its ability to calm the mind and even help in human maladies like insomnia and stress related disorders.

The music on Liquid Mind VI: Spirit ebbs and flows throughout the 6-track, 57-minute CD, first released on the Real Music label. During that early era of Real Music album releases, the music of Chuck Wild and Liquid Mind stood out like a beacon of hope among the New Age community.

Between 2004 and up to 2018 when they were taken over by Myndstream, Real Music released dozens of now classic albums by a wide range of artists and their many Liquid Mind CDs stand out among their finest.

A classic New Age album from the early 2000’s Liquid Mind VI: Spirit will work wonders for the faint of heart, instilling uplifting vibes of serenity and various stress-busting episodes.

Chuck Wild remembers Liquid Mind VI: Spirit

mwe3: Can you look back in time to the time when Liquid Mind VI: Spirit was recorded?

Chuck Wild: During the recording of Spirit, I was commuting every few weeks to Kansas City, Missouri to help care for my Dad after Mom passed on, and at the same time was trying to grow my young label, Chuck Wild Records. It was challenging, trying to be there for Dad, run a business long-distance, compose and record a new album, and I regularly used meditation during that period to help me relax and be able to stay healthy.

mwe3: The Spirit CD booklet features some dedications.

Chuck Wild: I’ve always dedicated my albums to family and friends I was close to who passed on during the time since the previous album.

mwe3: You said the album was a pivotal release for you.

Chuck Wild: For me the album was a turning point, both sonically, and business-wise. My dear friend fellow artist Suzanne Doucet had introduced me to Terence Yallop and Karen Kael, the husband and wife team that founded and ran Real Music many years back, and had mentioned to me that Terence and Karen meditated to my music every day since the early 1990’s.

I finally came to the conclusion, while recording Spirit, that if Liquid Mind was to grow, I would need to join with a larger organization and Real Music, with their healing music focus, seemed like the perfect fit. I flew up to Sausalito and negotiated a deal with them for four albums and some collections, spread out over a number of years, beginning with Reflection in 2004.

Spirit was the 6th and final album prior to connecting with Real Music.

mwe3: Tell us about your musical moods and direction during the Spirit album.

Chuck Wild: Sonically, starting with Spirit I began to somewhat simplify some of the arrangements to make the music more ‘sleep-worthy’, so it was somewhat of an experiment, but eventually, in the album Sleep, I made the decision to continue on that path of very quieting ’sleepy’ music.

mwe3: Is there a story of how you decided on the album title?

Chuck Wild: The title of the album came from my desire to connect spiritually with the world, and was an important part of my journey to focus on kindness and healing in my own life.
