Back
in 1969 Beatles fans were amazed by the Lp release by Jackie Lomax
entitled Is This What You Want? Jackie was a protégé
of Beatles guitarist George Harrison, the albums mastermind
who wrote Jackies debut single on Apple Records Sour Milk
Sea. A member of Liverpool favorites The Undertakers back in
the early Beatles years, Lomax has released a number of solo albums
over the years with recent highlights including a fantastic early
90s CD reissue of his Apple album featuring several key bonus
cuts as well as reissues of the Undertakers albums spotlighting his
vocal and guitar work. In 2001, Jackie recorded The Ballad Of Liverpool
Slim, his first album of new material in 20 years.
Fans have waited eight long years to hear this great Lomax comeback,
and to make it even more appealing Angel Air packs their 14 cut Liverool
Slim CD with a pair of bonus cuts, including a live Sour
Milk Sea, recorded in San Francisco in 1976 and an even more
recent tribute to the late, great George Harrison, a real Lomax tear-jerker
in the finest Harrisong tradition entitled Friend-A-Mine.
Liverool Slim features a solid group including Spirit bass
icon Mark Andes and several other players supporting Jackies
vocals, lead guitar work, bass and keyboards. His hair may be graying
but as the CD points out, Lomax has lost none of his incredibly soulful
vocal and song writing abilities. Anyone who enjoyed Jackie back in
the Sour Milk Sea days will dig the bluesy, soulful rock
groove of The Ballad Of Liverpool Slim. Oh, and Jackies
cover art original oil painting graces the front cover of the CD booklet.
A man of many talents indeed. www.JackieLomax.com
