Listening
to folk-rock poet and singer-songwriter Donovan is a little like experiencing
Transcendental Meditation (TM). Mystical, sublime and cosmically refreshing,
TM has been a root cause of Donovan since the days of 68 when
he and The Beatles spent time in India with the late Maharishi Yogi.
Celebrating 40+ years of classic music, Donovan brought his music
alive in L.A. on January 21, 2007 and the results can be seen and
heard on his first live DVD, The Donovan Concert: Live In L.A.
Released stateside on the MVD Visual imprint, the DVD features Don
backed up by light percussion from Stewart Lawrence and slap
bass from Tom Mansi. The DVD features low-key acoustic guitar-based
covers of classic Donovan musicfrom 1964s Catch
The Wind to Happiness Runsall from the 60s,
although there are several bonus cuts including a new track here called
Illusion from Dons planned Ritual Groove
album. Dons daughter, Astrella Celeste appears here along
with a brief cameo from an old TM ally, Mike Love. Benefitting
the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-based Education and World
Peace, The Donovan Concert: Live In L.A. captures a magical
night by one of the legendary music makers of the 60s. www.mvdb2b.com
