COCO MONTOYA
I Want It All Back
(Ruf)

Produced by Keb’ Mo’ and Jeff Paris, I Want You Back signals the return of blues rock guitar great Coco Montoya. The production of Keb’ Mo’ and Jeff Paris works wonders for Montoya, who clearly appears at the top of his game on the eleven track I Want It All Back. Montoya’s first album for Ruf Records finds him in excellent guitar form while singing up a storm on a batch of songs that will appeal to a cross-section of blues and rock fans. In the spirit of recent releases from Clapton, Andy Fairweather-Low and Robert Cray, Montoya’s latest CD is made whole with an emotionally packed guitar and vocal sound and memorable songs that enables him to deliver his blues-rock message. I Want It All Back features Keb’ Mo’ on rhythm guitar, Jeff Paris on keyboards and Hammond B-3, along with the solid rhythm section of Stephen Ferrone, Courtney Branch, Gorden Campbell (drums / percussion), Reggie McBride (bass) and other fine players. One of Montoya’s strong points is covering excellent composers, in this case Nashville composer Gary Nicholson who teams with Paris on the track “As Close As I Have Come” while Coco’s cover of the Jeff Paris song “The Life Of My Broken Heart” is a definite radio friendly highlight of this CD. Other classic moments include the rockin’ bounce of the lead off “Hey Senorita” and the worthy title track. With I Want It All Back, Coco Montoya and company have recorded one of the great crossover blues / rock albums of 2010. www.RufRecords.de / www.CocoMontoya.com
