America’s fascination with the exotic sounds of Latin jazz and Rumba Flamenco continues to witness some excellent results, notably a 2008 CD from nylon string guitar virtuoso Lawson Rollins. While he established a solid fan base with his Young & Rollins Band, on Infinita, Rollins has composed a fresh set of mostly instrumental tracks featuring a top echelon of players including Shahin Shahida, mulit-instrumentalist of the group Shahin & Sepehr, Brazilian percussion superstar Airto Moreira and acclaimed string player Charlie Bisharat. Appearing on several vocal numbers is Airto’s partner singer Flora Purim. Featuring Rollins’ Spanish-tinged nylon string guitar and occasional electric guitar set against an eclectic mix of Latin and Middle Eastern musical influences, Infinita is a solid, well recorded CD filled with intriguing guitar instrumentals.
