The
founding guitarist in Roxy Music, Phil Manzanera is also renowned
for his excellent recordingsboth solo and with the group Quiet
Sun. One of Manzaneras most popular albums was the famous 801
Live, featuring Phil backed up by illustrious players
such as his partner in Quiet Sun, Bill MacCormick (bass/vocals),
Eno (synth/vocals/guitar/tapes), drummer Simon Phillips
and more. In 2009 Manzaneras Expression label reissued the
original 801 Live album as a double "Collector's Edition"
CD set featuring the original September 3, 1976 concert in England
along with a second CD of rehearsals for that concert recorded at
Shepperton studios on August 23, 1976. The rehearsal CD is actually
a mirror CD of the original concert album which featured various tracks
from the Quiet Sun album, Enos Another Green World along
with live in the studio versions from Phils mid 70s albums.
Still featuring that famous iconic cover art with MacCormicks
bass, one of the most famous live albums from one of Englands
greatest electric guitarists just got a little better. Manzanera watchers
should also take note of other recent Expression Records releases
including 801 Live @ Hull (from 1977), 801 Latino (from
1999) and another 801 CD release entitled 801 Manchester (also
from the 1977 801 UK tour). www.Manzanera.com
